Wearing Propaganda: Textiles on the homefront in Japan, Britain and the United States, 1931-1945

Men's haori with battleship print

The Lyman Museum in Hilo offers you the rare opportunity to view a unique collection of civilian fashions designed to help promote wartime agendas in three countries. Selected from private and public collections, many of the textiles, especially those from Japan, have never been documented or photographed prior to this exhibition shown only in Honolulu and New York. “Wearing Propaganda” runs from May 24 through August 24, 2007.

The Lyman Museum, located at 276 Haili Street in Hilo, is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30am to 4:30pm and is closed on Memorial Day and July 4th. For more information call 935-5021 or visit www.lymanmuseum.org

The exhibit, shown at the nationally-accredited and Smithsonian-affiliated Lyman Museum, was made possible by The Hawai’i Council for the Humanities and the “We the People” Special Initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
